Coach Igor Tudor is facing the possibility of losing his job at Tottenham, after the team suffered a disgraceful loss to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League.
The future of Igor Tudor at Tottenham has become more precarious after the heavy 2-5 defeat against Atletico Madrid in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16. The Croatian strategist was appointed as interim manager until the end of the season to replace Thomas Frank, who was dismissed in February. However, after only a short period in charge, the Spurs leadership has shown disappointment with Tudor's performance.
According to information from talkSPORT, the club's owners are dissatisfied with the impact he has made since taking over the team. It is understood that Tottenham may consult with the players before making a final decision on Tudor's future, given that he has lost all four matches since his appointment.
If dismissed in the near future, the former Juventus coach could even risk setting the record for the shortest tenure in Premier League history. As of Thursday, Tudor has only been in position for 24 days and could surpass the unwanted record set by Sam Allardyce when he managed Leeds United for 30 days in 2023.
In the recent match, Tottenham endured a nightmare first half. The London club has now lost six consecutive games and quickly fell behind 0-3 within the first 14 minutes, due to errors by goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky and defender Micky van de Ven. Immediately after the third goal, Kinsky was substituted, a decision reportedly even surprising the Spurs leadership.
With this defeat, Tottenham faces a significant challenge if they wish to maintain hopes in European competition. Winning the Champions League is now seen as their only path to secure a European cup spot next season, given the concerning situation in domestic leagues.
Tottenham is currently embroiled in a relegation battle, sitting just one point above the relegation zone in the Premier League. Tudor was appointed after Frank was dismissed only eight months after signing his contract, with the 1-2 loss to Newcastle seen as the final straw prompting the leadership to change managers.
Although many fans had called for Mauricio Pochettino, Tudor was the chosen candidate. However, that decision has not yielded results so far, and Tottenham's leadership may consider drastic measures to part ways with him, despite the Croatian strategist's contract originally lasting only until the end of the season.
