Tottenham goalkeeper 'embarrassed' to leave the pitch after 15 minutes due to poor performance

During their away trip to Atletico Madrid, manager Igor Tudor decided to give Czech goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky his first start since October. This decision was made after first-choice goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario had shown unconvincing form recently.

However, the match started disastrously for Tottenham. In the 5th minute, Kinsky made a serious mistake by slipping while handling the ball, allowing Marcos Llorente to capitalize and score the opening goal for Atletico Madrid.

Before they could regain composure, Spurs conceded another goal just minutes later. Antoine Griezmann easily doubled the lead following a lax defensive situation from the visitors, leaving Tottenham's defense completely passive.

Kinsky's disaster continued. In an attempt to distribute the ball from the back, the goalkeeper made a faulty pass, inadvertently giving Julian Alvarez the chance to score, raising the score to 3-0 for the home team.

Seeing his player's disappointing performance, manager Igor Tudor made an extremely decisive decision. Immediately after the third goal, he promptly withdrew Kinsky from the pitch and sent Guglielmo Vicario in as a replacement.

Nevertheless, this change could not help Tottenham stabilize the situation. Atletico Madrid further increased the lead when Robin Le Normand scored with a header, nearly causing Spurs to completely collapse in the first half.

On social media, many fans were stunned by Kinsky's performance lasting only about 15 minutes. One fan wrote on X that this could be "the worst performance by a player in the Champions League", even comparing it to Loris Karius's infamous mistake in the 2018 final.

Some opinions suggest this shock could severely impact the young goalkeeper's confidence. However, many also expressed sympathy, stating that Tudor's early substitution somewhat helped Kinsky avoid further pressure.

For Tottenham, Pedro Porro scored a goal to narrow the deficit in the second half, but that was insufficient to change the match's outcome. The North London representative still faces an extremely difficult task if they wish to reverse the situation and secure a spot in the Champions League quarter-finals.
