Counting money again! Official: Doncic fined $50,000 for making inappropriate and unprofessional gesture towards referee

On March 11 Beijing time, the NBA officially announced that Lakers star Luka Doncic was fined $50,000 for "making an inappropriate and unprofessional gesture towards the game referee."

The incident occurred during the third quarter of Monday's Lakers victory over the New York Knicks. At that time, Doncic was stripped by Knicks guard Shamet, then attempted to draw an offensive foul on DiVincenzo during a fast break, but was instead called for a blocking foul. While lying on the floor, he stared at the referee and made the "money-counting gesture" by rubbing his fingers together.

Doncic had made a similar gesture while playing for the Mavericks.

According to SportsNet, this fine brings Doncic's total fines for this season to $95,000.

Doncic has accumulated 15 technical fouls this season, trailing only Suns player Dillon Brooks, who leads the league with one more. Receiving one more technical foul will result in an automatic one-game suspension and further penalties.

NBA rules stipulate: After a player accumulates 16 technical fouls in the regular season, every two additional technical fouls will result in an automatic unpaid one-game suspension.

So far this season, Doncic has played 52 games for the Lakers, averaging 32.5 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 8.4 assists per game. The Lakers currently stand at 39 wins and 25 losses, ranking fifth in the Western Conference.
